This weekend we were at 2 awesome events! The Pan Mass Challenge is a 2 day, 180 mile, bike ride across the state of Massachusetts (from Sturbridge to the tip of the Cape in Provincetown)! This ride raises funds for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund (more than $270 Million since its inception)! We served breakfast bright and early (3am-6am) to the 5000 riders before they left Sturbridge for the first leg of the ride!
After we wrapped up the PMC breakfast we drove out to Falmouth, MA for the all day Naukabout Music Festival! This fun music fest is hosted by the Naukabout clothing company (learn more about their goals and values, and don’t forget to check out their gear!) We heard some great tunes while passing out yummy Bear Naked granola and yogurt parfaits!
After only a few hours of sleep we were up before the crack of dawn (about 2:30 am!) to find our truck totally blocked in (I’m talking curb/ trees on one side, a car in front of us, a car behind us, and a huge penske box truck along our otherside!) Not fun to deal with in the middle of the night! Needless to say we had the front desk start calling the rooms of the vehicle owners.. and when we finally got one to come move her car she was not a happy camper! We met back up with the PMC riders in Bourne (at the Mass Maritime Academy) to serve them breakfast for Day 2 of the ride! We dished up bowls of Bear Naked cereal as well as granola to fuel the riders through the second leg of the journey! By 6am the riders were all off on their way towards the tip of the cape, and we road into the sunrise for our trip home!

Talk about getting dirty. After this silly duathlon had been completed, we were greeted by Charlie Chapmans, Talking Bananas, French Maids, and Ninjas to name a few of the many characters that tried our parfaits. As we brought only a limited supply of reusable bags, we had created a huge buzz about both the parfaits and our baggies. People were willing to trade certain articles of clothing for a bag and even a pair of muddy shoes. This race was a ton of fun and the scenery was absolutely stunning. Everybody from little tikes to grandparents were running and cycling together in this amusing race to the finish line.

The Urban Assault Ride is the biggest bike scavenger hunt series in the world. You and a teammate will take to the streets on a city wide bike adventure. Plot your own course to various checkpoints around the area. There are routine physical and mental obstacles throughout the length of the course.
Beer and Bear Naked granola parfaits: the new burger and fries We met some ridiculously outfitted teams with either ’80s spandex, trippy hippie colorways, and/or Harley buffs. A wide spectrum of people raced with big wheels and accessories up the hizzie! You guys were great!!

Being at the 1st annual Undy 5000 (‘undy’ as in underwear) was as much as a race as it was about spreading the word about colorectal cancer. They pushed wearing underwear while racing because we don’t talk about colorectal cancers enough. Maybe it’s embarrassing or maybe it’s not dinner talk. But we should all get screened and at least know what we may be up against.
As a result of the race, the Undy 5000 had raised over $100,000 for research. If you somehow missed the large colon tent, depicting the stages of cancers, you really missed out on a once of a lifetime event. Not only that, you couldn’t miss the occasional racer sporting his and her colorful happy-face boxer briefs. It was awesome. This race will be in my memory forever. Talk about slingin’ some granola to half naked racers with their socks above their knees.

The 5430 Sprint Tri took place at the stunning Boulder Reservoir. Racers and spectators indulged their senses with food, beer, massages, music, and of course- RACING! As the music jammed in the background, racers of all ages (17-79+) swam, cycled, and ran this course, all the while the volunteers were cookin’ some serious grub at the breakfast station. Many who attended decided that a good pre and post-meal consisted of a Bear Naked parfait. We were delighted to sample many excited spectators and top notch racers on both the expo day (Saturday) and race day (Sunday).
On a personal note, I was thoroughly amazed with the sheer dedication that these athletes have with their sport. One such individual (age 79) had a particular goal of his almost attained…to complete 100 races between the ages of 70 and 80. He was at number 86. Amazing. Mad props to him and those just like him. Keep on truckin’!!!
