CRW Climbed to the Clouds- and back!

The Charles River Wheelmen are the largest cycling club in New England with over 2000 active members and this past weekend we went out to their Climb to the Clouds Summer Century Bike Ride! The club, and their Wednesday Morning ride were featured in The Boston globe this past week. This was the second of their 3 annual century rides. Riders leave from 2 locations for rides varrying from 45 to 100 miles. We supplied 500 samples and coupons for all riders at one of the water stops and the start / finish for the riders from Nashoba Regional H.S.

We set up to offer parfaits, for the riders doing the longer distances as they returned to the parking lot of Concord / Carlisle Regional H.S. a stone’s throw from historic and picturesque Walden Pond. A Bear Naked sponsored athlete named Liz stopped by with her boyfriend as they walked back from a swim in preparation for their tri in Lake Placid, NY next weekend. Great job to everyone out there!

7:30 amto11:30 am

The Venus de Miles was one of our women’s only bike rides, here in Colorado.  We were honored to serve the participants and supporters of the other causes there, including the Green house Scholars, an organization providing education, mentorship, and scholarships to under-resourced students.

We were greeted with one such joyous biker, who entered our station with what seemed to be a baby-holster…carrying her loving pet…wearing sun goggles.  Check the pic; probably the funniest things we’ve seen yet :)

What a fun week out here in Boston! On Wednesday we went out to the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Fitchburg, MA for the Longsjo Classic Registration evening! The riders were gearing up for this 4-day Pro/Am Bicycling Competition! The riders were excited for a parfait snack and we were thrilled to see the pros from all over the East Coast and even some from Canada!

On Sunday we were there to support the bikers and their fans with parfaits and snack packs during the grand finale races! It was an exciting day with our booth right next to the race course- only 100m from the finish line! The highlight of the day was when the Women’s Overall Gold Medal Winner and her teammate stopped by and doubled up on Bear Naked Granola parfaits- they definitely earned it!

This weekend we went out to the MS 150 Bike Tour, a 2-day, 150 mile bike ride benefiting the Multiple Sclerosis Society. We were at the Lunch Rest Stop on Day 1 in Griswold, CT serving parfaits and handing out snack packs (which one rider commented is a “perfect mid-ride pick-me up!”). We had a great day and were happy to be there to support these hard working riders who were truly impressive in their athleticism and strength of character to commit to such feat!

5430 Sprint Triathalon- Sunday

The 5430 Sprint Tri took place at the stunning Boulder Reservoir.  Racers and spectators indulged their senses with food, beer, massages, music, and of course- RACING!  As the music jammed in the background, racers of all ages (17-79+) swam, cycled, and ran this course, all the while the volunteers were cookin’ some serious grub at the breakfast station.  Many who attended decided that a good pre and post-meal consisted of a Bear Naked parfait.  We were delighted to sample many excited spectators and top notch racers on both the expo day (Saturday) and race day (Sunday).

On a personal note, I was thoroughly amazed with the sheer dedication that these athletes have with their sport.  One such individual (age 79) had a particular goal of his almost attained…to complete 100 races between the ages of 70 and 80.  He was at number 86.  Amazing.  Mad props to him and those just like him.  Keep on truckin’!!!

Bear Naked Tour Rocks the Tour (de Cure that is..)

Posted on June 15th, 2009 | by LJ & Jon | No Comments »

At the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure in Narragansett, RI this past Sunday it felt more like October than June…Late October…when riders began to show up at Pier Middle School around 5:45 AM. Those riding the longest distance (100 miles) had to show up the earliest for registration and a Bear Naked Granola Parfait. Everyone was in good spirits as they set out to raise awareness and funds for the fight against diabetes. By the time the last wave of riders went off around 9, there were more than 200 hearty cyclists plying the highways rural roads of the Southern RI coast in the cold morning mist.

Neither rain, nor cold, nor grey mist could keep us from serving a Bear Naked breakfast to riders in the 2009 Tour de Cure. when wind gusts hit 20 and threatened to blow the pop-up tent into the next county…Team Bear Naked adopted and moved under the shelter of the Pier Middle School’s main entrance… Tour on!
