Crazy Cape Cod Weekend!

Posted on August 9th, 2010 | by LJ & Jon | No Comments »

This weekend we were at 2 awesome events!  The Pan Mass Challenge is a 2 day, 180 mile, bike ride across the state of Massachusetts (from Sturbridge to the tip of the Cape in Provincetown)!  This ride raises funds for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund (more than $270 Million since its inception)!  We served breakfast bright and early (3am-6am) to the 5000 riders before they left Sturbridge for the first leg of the ride!

After we wrapped up the PMC breakfast we drove out to Falmouth, MA for the all day Naukabout Music Festival!  This fun music fest is hosted by the Naukabout clothing company (learn more about their goals and values, and don’t forget to check out their gear!)  We heard some great tunes while passing out yummy Bear Naked granola and yogurt parfaits!

After only a few hours of sleep we were up before the crack of dawn (about 2:30 am!) to find our truck totally blocked in (I’m talking curb/ trees on one side, a car in front of us, a car behind us, and a huge penske box truck along our otherside!)  Not fun to deal with in the middle of the night!  Needless to say we had the front desk start calling the rooms of the vehicle owners.. and when we finally got one to come move her car she was not a happy camper! We met back up with the PMC riders in Bourne (at the Mass Maritime Academy) to serve them breakfast for Day 2 of the ride!  We dished up bowls of Bear Naked cereal as well as granola to fuel the riders through the second leg of the journey!  By 6am the riders were all off on their way towards the tip of the cape, and we road into the sunrise for our trip home!

This week was our final week of the Bear Naked New England Summer tour. We had an amazing time this summer and I hope all of you who stopped by our tent for a snack or a grocery bag enjoyed our presence too! There were a lot of familiar faces at these last couple events, with multiple people telling us they had seen us at different events over the summer and were excited to see us again!

Friday we went out to the last Bike Friday at the City Hall Plaza in downtown Boston. This terrific green initiative is supported by the Mayor and Hub on Wheels, and it encourages commuters to ride their bikes in to work instead of driving! We were excited to make it out to the last Bike Friday of the season and hope to join in the fun again next year!

Sunday we wrapped up the tour with one final event up in Kennebunk, Maine- the Fireman’s Triathlon! It was a gorgeous day and we had a blast serving parfaits and snack packs to the participants and the enthusiastic crowd! At first the free pancakes served by the American Legion seemed a bit tough to compete with, but as tales of our free parfaits and shopping bags snaked through the crowd we soon had people running up to our table in droves! One woman even exclaimed that her “daughter is ignoring her pancakes and eating my parfait- I came back to see if I could get her one of her own!” We of course obliged and were happy to serve her, her daughter, and the rest of this great crowd!

So thats about it folks- thanks for helping us make this summer truly awesome! As we always say- keep Living Bear Naked!

Peace

Lindsay and Jim

This week we went up to Salem, MA for the Witches Cup on Wednesday and to Beverly, MA for the Beverly Grand Prix on Thursday! Both of these Bike races were awesome events with a great crew of participants, tons of fans to cheer them on, and lots of love for the Bear Naked granola parfaits we were handing out.

We met a guy who had just got back from a trip to Mexico and had a sketch of an Agave plant (one of the key ingredients in our Mango Agave Almond flavored granola!). A group of the bikers were participants in both events and had a trip to the Cape planned for the weekend for a multi-day bike tour- now thats living Bear Naked!

Breakfast at the Pan Mass Challenge!

Posted on August 5th, 2009 | by LJ & Jon | No Comments »

Over the weekend we went out to support the Pan Mass Challenge- a 2 day bike-a-thon that supports cancer research through the Jimmy Fund! There were over 5000 riders, who raised over $30 million this year alone, and the ride started in Sturbridge, MA and ended in Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod!

We were there in the mornings prior to the ride as part of the breakfast buffet (and let me tell ya- bikers riding 75 miles a day can definitely eat!) Instead of our fabulous granola and yogurt parfaits, we were there serving our brand new BEAR NAKED CEREAL!! It was exciting to be there to cheer on the riders and help them fuel there day!

At the Day 2 breakfast one rider came up for a bowl of cereal and said “Bear Naked got me through the first day, hopefully it will get me through to the end!” With 2 Bear Naked Cereal flavors at breakfast- Banana Nut and Cranberry Raisin – and sample packs of granola and at the rest stops I’m glad we were there to support this rider and all of the riders through their 150 mile journey!
