Saul Raisin, at age 23, crashed on his road bicycle and undertook a traumatic brain injury that was lead by a coma and serious bodily injury.  To everybody’s amazement, this guy bounced back after some serious rehab treatment and decided to raise awareness for those individuals who have disabilities as a result of traumatic brain injuries.  Mr. Raisin wrote a book and is currently racing again.  This race that got great feedback from all it’s riders.  Raisin was great and so were all the spectators and riders that stopped by our booth to try our Bear Naked granola.

Undy 5000

Being at the 1st annual Undy 5000 (‘undy’ as in underwear) was as much as a race as it was about spreading the word about colorectal cancer.  They pushed wearing underwear while racing because we don’t talk about colorectal cancers enough.  Maybe it’s embarrassing or maybe it’s not dinner talk.  But we should all get screened and at least know what we may be up against.

As a result of the race, the Undy 5000 had raised over $100,000 for research.  If you somehow missed the large colon tent, depicting the stages of cancers, you really missed out on a once of a lifetime event.  Not only that, you couldn’t miss the occasional racer sporting his and her colorful happy-face boxer briefs.  It was awesome.  This race will be in my memory forever.  Talk about slingin’ some granola to half naked racers with their socks above their knees.
