It’s the first Monday of the month, and you know what that means. Patagonia Seattle is holding another FREE Adventure Film Festival! This month’s show: Red Gold.

Grab your ORCA card and get down to 1st and Lenora by 7 pm, because standing and watching a film isn’t nearly as fun as sitting.  Although eating Bear Naked Parfaits is enjoyable in any position.

The Bristol Bay region of southwest Alaska is home to the Kvichak and Nushagak rivers – the two most prolific sockeye salmon runs left in the world. Two mining companies, Northern Dynasty Minerals and Anglo American, have proposed an open-pit and underground mine at the rivers’ headwaters. The area holds the second largest deposit of copper, gold and molybdenum ever discovered, with an estimated value of more than $300 billion. Despite promises of a clean project by mining officials, the accident-plagued history of hard-rock mining has wrought one of the biggest land-use issues Alaska has ever faced.

Red Gold gives a face to the issue and a voice to the people of Bristol Bay who depend on this extraordinary fishery.
