Live Bear Naked Tour 2009

New England summer!

Fun community events this week in Boston. We went out to BSSC’s soccer league playoffs night in Winchester for some awesome kicks, laughs, and snacks.

Sunday we went up to Byfield for the North Shore Cyclists Blazin’ Saddles Century Ride. It was a hot and rainy day, but the riders toughed it out and rocked the 100 miles! We were there for the post-ride picnic to provide snacks and all of the riders were excited to carry around their brand new Bear Naked reusable grocery bags that they had just gotten as registration packs!

Tote Bag Frenzy

Posted on August 19th, 2009 | by Sheila and Aaron | No Comments »

tricrowd.jpgIMG_0423.JPGIMG_0457.JPGIMG_0454.JPGA tote bag is kind of like a life jacket. Under normal circumstances it is a bit of a nuisance to carry around with you. But if you have it when you need it, you feel like the smartest person alive. I suppose this is why people were so happy that we brought them to the Danskin Expo this year. As many of you already know, before most big races there is an expo. The expo is designed to do two things: 1. give you your race packet, and 2. allow you to plunder the many vendors who are offering you free stuff.

Everyone likes the expo and looks expectantly toward the day when they can stuff handfuls of tiny energy bars, shoelaces and vitamin drinks into their grownup Halloween baskets. The problem is that in their anticipation, almost everyone forgets to bring a bag. Sure two handfuls of free stuff is great, but not as great at a Bear Naked tote bag (a.k.a. reusable shopping bag) full of free stuff!

Of course, plundering is not only reason to want a bright orange Bear Naked shopping bag. They ARE pretty spectacular looking (and one would imagine, hard to forget before you head to the store). And of course, there is the environmental benefit that these bags offer. Perhaps it was for one of these reasons that we met our favorite Bear Naked Environmentalist/Smartly Outfitted Shopper of the of the weekend: Lady who ran to the finish line, not the starting line, at 6:30 a.m., minutes before the race started, to ask, while slightly out of breath, if we had any more tote bags.  Morning tote bag runner, we applaud you!

The view from the top. You can see Rattlesnake Lake below. All of these valleys were carved out by glaciers during the last ice age. As a result, there are tons of really shallow mountain lakes and dotting the system of u-shaped valleys among the Cascade Mountains.

Our tablecloth didn't hang properly because there was a giant real rock in the way. It seemed fitting, so we left the table there. Plus, if we would have moved back any farther, we would have probably fallen off the cliff.

Things to note in this photo: Chris is still really hot and tired. He didn't want to put a shirt on - he is becoming something of a nudist (all speedos all the time), we have uncrushed fresh blueberries, ice cold yogurt, and yes, we never let up with the meticulous cleanliness; Clorox wipes.

Ready! And beautiful. We had to lay the bags of Bear Naked down because the wind kept blowing them off the table.

When we got all set-up, there were around 50 hikers sitting around the top of the rock, taking in the view. I went around to all of them and invited them to come get a parfait. Everyone thanked me, but almost no one took me up on the offer. I though that they were scared of falling off. Later my girlfriend, who was sitting in the middle of the rock area, told me that almost everyone was just scared that we were going to fall off the edge and die. I guess they didn't want to be an accessory to the disaster. It didn't look scary from behind the table, but when I climbed down the cliff a bit to get this picture, I could see where they were coming from. There is about 800 more feet of drop-off, not shown in the picture.

We REALLY wanted to run back down the mountain and jump in the lake. It was HOT at the top. So hot in fact, that Chris and Hayden had a serious 10 minute long conversation about the possibility of turning one of our backpacks into a wing suit and flying down to the lake below.

Second location. We moved here due to hiker fear of the edge. After we moved here, we were busy the whole time! Who would have ever thought that there would be a line at a free granola stand on top of a mountain? I love it! The best part of the day came about 2 hours into our sampling efforts. Hikers often talk to each other when they pass by one another on the trail. Apparently, some of the descending hikers, were excitedly telling ascending hikers (perhaps for a bit of extra encouragement), that we were making parfaits with cold yogurt, Bear Naked Granola and FRESH BLUEBERRIES on top. Everyone obviously thought that they were lying until they emerged from the trail and saw our orange table. People were seriously so shocked that they would just stop and laugh. Everyone loved it. Then they would ask, "So, what other trails can we find you at?"

Besides the view, there is a large fissure in the rock at the top of the ridge. The rest of the pictures are just us playing in the fissure. We were having so much fun, and laughing so hard, that for the first 30 minutes of our hike down, everyone we passed (people heading up) told us they knew that they were close because they could hear us cheering. You forget that if you belly laugh on top of a mountain, people hear you!

Fun at the Seattle Seafair Events!

Posted on July 31st, 2009 | by Sheila and Aaron | No Comments »

Hi Everybody!

Our Bear Naked team in Seattle had a great time celebrating at all the fun Seafair events with the Seattle community.

We started off the month celebrating the fun tradition of the Milk Carton Derby at Green Lake. At this event we were very excited to hand out our delicious parfaits to all the creative participants who built their boats out of milk cartons and any other silly items they could find!

Our highlight of the events was seeing and meeting all the talented athletes including the Bear Naked sponsored athletes of Washington at Benaroya Research Institute Triathlon. This was an amazing event, theres nothing quite like seeing thousands of triathletes in the water at 6:00 AM!

We couldn’t have asked for a better place to have our last Seafair event, the Torchlight Marathon, right downtown next to Pioneer Square. Here we were happy to see everyone that loved our granola and especially those who loved trying it for the first time!

Check out all our great photos!

The VC is dear to our hearts.  The employees, customers, and everything in between has the perfect vibe.  We seemed to vibe fittingly with them.  At one point, we had a family army get their sample on.  You think athletes are hungry; wait ’til you see the little tikes with voracious appetites…I think we only put a dent in those little guys tummies.  Glad that we could help the parents.

Meet Aaron, Seattle Bear Naked Brand Ambassador

Aaron BoswellI’m a Seattle native and never leave home without my raincoat and running shoes.  I grew up here and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology.  I am a huge science nerd and plan to eventually obtain to get my Ph. D.  When I don’t have my nose in a book, I enjoy hiking in the Cascade Mountains, playing soccer, triathlon training, rock climbing, going to shows and watching soccer.  Seattle recently got a MLS soccer team, the Sounders, and watching their games is my favorite thing to do these days.

Denver Bike to Work Day

Posted on June 25th, 2009 | by Tara & Chris | No Comments »

Bike to work day was a huge success! There were over 10,000 first time riders and over 1,000 companies participated– a huge increase over last year. This year Bear Naked Granola was able to host one of the 120 breakfast stations scattered across Denver Metro. It was so inspiring to see how many people rode their bikes to work, as well as how much they were actually enjoying it. One woman who stopped by our breakfast station told me that she started riding her bike to work a year ago and has lost over 90 lbs! Keeping active, combined with healthy food choices, can really make a huge difference in your life and the environment!
