If you are participating in the Tri-Freaks triathalon be ready for an awesome surprise in your participant bag. I don’t want to give out the “whole” secret but Kelly invented this delicious snack/meal/dessert in her mother’s kitchen, and you’ll be receiving a tiny taste of it. Also look for a multiple-purpose piece of paper. One part coupon, one part bumper sticker, 100% Bear Naked awesomeness. Now run hard!

Meanwhile about 800 people from all over the country were putting on their wetsuit for the .5 mile swim, then grabbing their bike helmet for a 12 miler around the Eastside, and finally slapping on their runners for 3 miles of pounding the pavement.

Scheduled in the middle of September the Kirkland Triathlon misses the summer heat of the North West, or at least the sunny skies. But who wants to run, swim, and bike with the glare of Helios? For three days this event takes over Carillon Point, nestled on the Eastside of the 520 this has some of the best views of the north end of the lake and Husky stadium. We will be there handing out fresh parfaits for 2/3 of the time, so come on down and join in on the fun!

Friday 3 pm – 7 pm: registration

Saturday 6 am – 1 pm: adult triathlon

Sunday 8:30 am – 9:30 am: kids triathlon (we won’t actually be there for this one, but you can catch us on the other side of 520 at Pocock Rowing Center for Row for the Cure!)

Jeff Johnson, an American adventurer, was so inspired by Yvon’s story he decided to drop everything, sail across the world, and follow the foosteps of his hero to Patagonia. Along the way his eyes were opened to the environmental disasters that threaten these special places, and those who are working to save them.

A special Wednesday showing of the monthly Patagonia Film Festival provided a window into Jeff’s journey through ship wrecks in the open ocean, surfing the longest wave of his life, and attempting to scale Patagonia, a mountain only one man has successfully climbed before. We, and about 85 adventure seeking individuals, clamored into Patagonia Seattle to enjoy 180º South and delicious Bear Naked parfaits. If you missed the showing check your local listings because it may be coming to a theater near you. And unless you live in Canada I can guarantee Bear Naked is already available within shouting distance.

Join us at Patagonia to view a selection of environmentally themed films produced by small, independent filmmakers from around the world. From the impassioned to the whimsical, festival films cover a ride range of subject matter from climbing expeditions in Africa, to sustainable farming in the United States, to surfing the Snake River.

Friends of the Cedar River Watershed is hosting the festival and will share with you their Watershed Report – a survey of the Cedar River Watershed reported and produce by area high school students. They’re also holding an amateur photo contest.

Tickets are $8 in advance; $10 at the door. Advance tickets and contest information are available at cederriver.org, Brown Paper Tickets and at the Patagonia store. The festival is sponsored by Patagonia, Osprey packs, Sierra Nevada Brewing, Magnolia Audio Visual, and Tom’s of Maine.

2009 was Seattle’s inaugural Swim Across America, and in the history of Swim Across America it was one of the most successful inaugural events ever. For year two we are expecting the same, if not better. So grab your suit and a buddy and lets get wet! As all Swim Across America’s the proceeds are going to a great cause, this time it’s Seattle’s Cancer Care Alliance.

The fun starts at 6 am with registration, 7 am an awesome group photo, and 8 we get in the water for a two-mile swim. When you arrive back on dry land at Luther Burbank beach on Mercer Island you will be treated to a hot breakfast and some delicious Bear Naked goodies. We have special goodies for people who sign up for The Den or become Facebook friends with Bear Naked the event! Whoot! Whoot!

The third annual Green Tacoma Day will be on Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 9am to 12pm. Members of the Green Tacoma Partnership invite everyone to get outside and explore local parks and natural areas!

A number of parks and open spaces throughout Tacoma will be hosting a variety of restoration events and educational activities.

This year’s central hub will be located at the Tacoma Nature Center; there will be restoration activities occurring at the site along with activities aimed at children and families.  In addition, the new nature-themed playground called Discovery Pond will be completed and open to the public.

Unfortunately we won’t be there sweating along with our brothers and sisters to the south. But they will be powered by delicious Bear Naked snacks. If you want to get in on this check out their website and free your schedule because it’s going to be a full day of fun!

Bringing people together to build a stronger community, United Way of Pierce County’s annual Day of Caring connects volunteers with local nonprofit organizations to complete projects that may not otherwise get done. Projects range from taking children on a field trip to adding a fresh coat of paint on the walls of a transitional home. Day of Caring also provides an opportunity to develop long-lasting relationships with colleagues and other community members.
