They passed the finish line bloody and bruised, with muddied apparel and scratched limbs, and yet still managed to keep a proud smile. Saturday marked the 41st anniversary of the Double Dipsea; a handicap race that allows people of all ages and abilities to challenge themselves with a harsh-obstacle-filled trail. Not for the weak!
Bear Naked was ready with parfaits as the runners returned, wide-eyed and panting from their their ‘jog.’ Approximately 600 racers began at the breathtaking Stinson Beach and then followed the trail to Mill Valley through woods, slippery hills, dirt tracks and jagged rocks, and eventually crossed the line back at the beach.
The Bear Naked booth was perched near the busy finish line and heard zero complaints about bleeding wounds and aching muscles. Instead, we were flooded with an abundance of laughter, high spirits and appreciation for a granola-well done.

We headed out to the beautiful Presidio of San Francisco for Tri-Freaks Golden Gate Triathlon.
To leap into the chilly bay on a Sunday morning does imply something odd about these athletes. But once the fog cleared and they hopped on their bikes, it was clear that today was a perfect day for a race. The finish line at Crissy Field was picturesque with the Golden Gate in the backdrop.
After finishing, competitors gobbled down parfaits and headed to the well deserved massage tables next to our tent. We were also happy to provide breakfast to the volunteers and athletes’ supporters. The brave participants, beautiful weather, and bear naked granola made for an amazing Sunday.

The walls were filled with elongated limbs, reaching and pulling towards the ceiling with no regards to gravity– Planet Granite was filled with superheroes! Melanie and I (Amber) were very impressed and more than happy to chat up climbers in between mouthfuls of granola.

We brought out the original Fruit & Nut, Triple Berry ‘Fit’ and our newest Maple Pecan, topped them with yogurt and surprised everyone who was willing to take a break from their vertical endeavors.

Pleasanton, California wasn’t so pleasant on this particular Saturday morning; thick overcast left everyone pleading for sun at the Tri For Fun race, but no rays would be seen until the event’s end. Chilly air didn’t stop the 700 racers from jumping straight into the lake at Shadow Cliffs Regional Park– the orange shirts shivering under the Bear Naked tent could hardly believe their eyes!
From water to wheels to fast feet, the Tri For Fun was full of an impressive fleet of athletes and appetites. A long, hard race deserves a healthy snack, ladies and gentleman and no one had to be told twice that free Bear Naked samples were on the premises.

The event’s announcer was far from shy about his love for Bear Naked– I think somebody wanted to ensure he would receive his reusable grocery bag!…no worries. We brought enough to please the masses. Get your own at the next Tri For Fun, the third Saturday in July!

They swam, they ran, they biked and they ran again– The Alcatraz XXX Triathalon Escape from the Rock was intense and definitely not a feat any legit escapee from the rock could’ve survived! It was the Tri’s 30th anniversary and the crowd was stoked to see their friends and family complete the legendary race that so many movies and tourists have fantasized and romanticized.
Bear Naked’s original Peak Protein was a big hit with the athletes, especially when we added yogurt and a little love, of course. Spectators were very polite and appreciative of receiving a snack even though they weren’t drenched in sweat, blood and tears– (I can’t say I saw any actual tears– these guys/gals were tough!).

Climb wall after wall and sample flavor after flavor at Oakland’s Great Western Power Co.– a state-of-the-art indoor climbing gym. Several brave climbers took on walls with all kinds of challenging terrain. One stud actually scaled 100ft. high with a bag of peak protein in his jaws – he went in to what I like to call Bear Naked Mode!
Before reaching great heights, climbers fueled up on our delicious granola parfaits. We were also happy to provide post-workout snacks and $1 off coupons to these amazing athletes.

Oakland’s Jack London Square was filled with cute canines on Sunday for the first annual Dog Days of Summer event. In between oohing and ahhing over the chihuahuas in bathing suits and labradors wearing top hats, Bear Naked was more than happy to reward good owners with granola-yogurt parfaits– if they were willing to perform a trick of course!

The sun was high on another steamy day in the East Bay but thankfully the Bear Naked tent and doggie red carpet were set up close to the marina. The granola was a nice surprise for all the nearby farmer’s market attendees, walkers/joggers and Oakland residents stretchin’ their two (or more) legs on a sunny Summer afternoon.

Toned bodies and healthy appetites swarmed around the Bear Naked booth for three days straight– the Giant Race isn’t a non-sense nickname. From Thursday to Saturday we set up granola camp with plenty parfaits to feed the crowds who were coming through to grab their numbers, relax with a free massage or wind down from their excellent run through town.

The plate to plate 5K was quick and by early morning the masses had returned, sweat stained from the heat and starving for an all-natural breakfast. The rest of the morning was a constant flow of finishers from the half-marathon and visitors from the neighboring Giants Carnival.
Bear Naked scooped a whole lot Peak Protein, handed out a ton of $1 off coupons and really got the crowd jazzed with our re-usable grocery bags. Whew! What a weekend!
