ConservationNEXT is about to throw down a huge Backyard Collective on  Bend, OR! Bringing their environmental restoration skills to Skyline Forest while teaming up with the Deschutes Land Trust.

ConservationNEXT spawned off of Conservation Alliance in August 2008; it’s goal to connect individuals in the outdoor industry with the work of environmental organizations that receive financial support through the Alliance.  ConservationNEXT.com provides people with opportunities to take online action in support of conservation. The Backyard Collective moves that action to the field, helping the outdoor industry employees, Alliance grantees, and volunteers get their hands dirty in their own communities.

Unfortunately we won’t be there, but a bunch of 3.5 oz sample packs of Fruit and Nut will be, as well as the infamous coupons and bumper stickers that I’m sure you have seen all over the Pacific Northwest!

The sport of dragon boat racing has its roots in Ancient China where the first dragon boat races were held more than 2500 years ago along the banks of the Yangtze River. In the 1970s the Hong Kong Tourist Board staged an international Dragon Boat Festival to promote Hong Kong culture and the rest of the world was introduced to this beautiful athletic endeavor of teamwork and power.

Today there are more than 50 million people participating in competitions held on every continent. It is often considered the fastest growing water sport in the US, and one of the fastest-growing corporate team-building activities.

Saturday September 4th we will be at Stan Sayres Memorial Park to witness the Seattle Dragon Boat Festival of 30 teams of 25 as they propel these beautiful boats through Lake Washington, using the most eco-friendly power available the all-natural human kind. We are going to be providing the fuel to these engines in all natural granola parfaits and granola bars, if you’re there feel free to fill up your tank as well.  As it has for the past six years the festival is to benefit Team Survivor Northwest a non-profit organization supporting women in their cancer recovery through empowering programs of physical activity and health education.

September 13, 2010
5:00 pmto7:00 pm

TakeYourBike is a not-for-profit organization that was created in an effort to help raise awareness of the many benefits introduced by incorporating commuter cycling into your daily life. We promote the many positive facets of a commuter cyclist’s lifestyle including the health benefits, environmental sustainability, economic impact, and community mentality. The Border2Border tour is to be the first of many actions on our part to build a more active and conscious base of commuters – cyclists and non-cyclists alike.

On September 12, 2010,  the TakeYourBike team will ride their bikes from Canada to Mexico in an effort to promote the viability of bicycles as a daily transportation vehicle, the sustainability of the bicycle as a mode of transportation in today’s global climate, and the many other positive facets of incorporating riding a bike into your daily life. Over 6 weeks long in duration, the Border2Border Tour will pass through Seattle, Olympia, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Venice Beach, Los Angeles, Huntington Beach, and San Diego hosting awareness rides, running promotional events at local bike shops, and interviewing members of the commuter cycling community.

I’m thrilled to hear that we’ll be able to take some Bear Naked product out with us on the tour – I have been a fan since this past winter when I first sampled some of your products at an event at Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Colorado. As an endurance athlete myself (I’m a competitive cyclist and triathlete), I agree – the bars do wonders on the long rides. We will be stopping at the Montlake Bicycle Shop on September 13th and leading a group ride from there at 7. Next stop Olympia and then South!

9:00 amto12:30 pm

Come celebrate Family Fitness Day at Magnuson park and participate in a duathlon! What is a duathlon you ask? Well that’s a great question, and luckily we have the interweb to answer these stupefying questions. Apparently it’s like a triathlon except the swimming section is replaced with a second run. In this case it’s 1.6 mile run + 13 mile bike ride + 1.6 mile run.  This can be done as an individual, teams, or even as a relay team. The powers that be have decided to hold their typical 5k, 10k, and 15k runs as well.

We are going to be there with yogurt and granola in hand to keep all these individuals and teams energized! Grab the kids; It’s hip to be fit!

The  initial Row for the Cure took place in 1994 on Portland’s Willamette River as a way for the rowing community to support runners and walkers participating in the Rose City’s Race for the Cure.  That first regatta  raised a modest $1,500.

Today, with events in 15 U.S. states and Germany, Row for the Cure has blossomed into a multi-sport event that includes athletes of all ages representing four sports; rowing, canoe/kayak, dragon boat and Native American paddling.

With over 20 cities having hosted a Row for the Cure, participants now raise over $300,000 annually, rowing and paddling together to save lives in their local communities.

We are going to be at the Pocock Rowing Center providing nutritious / delicious Bear Naked parfaits to these amazing athletes all working together for a great cause. Grab your man-powered water vehicle and join them!

180° South: Conquerors of the Useless
A Film Inspired by the Legendary 1968 Trip by Yvon Chouinard & Doug Tompkins

After seeing footage of a 1968 roadtrip made by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and friends from Southern California to Patagonia, a young American adventurer named Jeff Johnson spent the next 10 years dreaming of following their footsteps. In 2007, Jeff dropped everything to finally fulfill his dream. Setting sail on what would become a six-month traverse of North and South America, he hoped to find unclimbed mountains and unridden waves. But as he traveled, his eyes opened to the environmental disasters that threaten these special places, and those who are working to save them.

Join us at Patagonia for this free event. Part of our Adventure Film Series.
