Before planting can take place, the burned area must be analyzed. The extent and severity of the burn and the effects on the trees and soil are evaluated to determine if conditions are suitable for natural regeneration. A decision is made on how much of the area needs to be replanted or if it needs to be replanted at all. From this evaluation, the number of trees that will be required for the project is calculated.
